My favorite part: "This is what terrifies colonizers most: not Palestinian anger but Palestinian persistence, not their desperation but their refusal to disappear. Every child born in the camps becomes proof that genocide has failed. Every song sung in the rubble announces that culture survives conquest. Every dawn that finds Palestinians still breathing becomes an act of resistance."
I just sent this to several Canadian media outlets that have broken my heart during this period. Posting here in case you would like to do the same.
"To Whom It May Concern,
I write as a deeply concerned Canadian watching our national media fail its fundamental duty: to inform the public with honesty, accuracy, and integrity. The genocide in Gaza is being misrepresented, softened, or outright ignored by major Canadian news outlets, and your credibility is suffering.
This is not a “crisis” or a “conflict.” It is mass displacement. It is ethnic cleansing. It is genocide, as identified by international legal experts, United Nations officials, and human rights organizations.
Yet Canadian media coverage continuously centres Israeli state narratives while marginalizing or discrediting Palestinian voices. The public sees this. We are losing faith in you.
Where are the names and faces of over 15,000 murdered Palestinian children? Where is the urgency in covering mass graves around hospitals, the bombing of refugee camps, and the starvation of civilians under siege? Why do headlines obscure Palestinian suffering, while Israeli sources receive clarity, emphasis, and presumed truth?
Here are a few persistent patterns distorting your reporting:
- Headlines describe Israeli military actions as “responses,” while Palestinian casualties, often in the hundreds or thousands, are mentioned only in passing or omitted.
- Palestinian civilians are bombed daily, with little to no ground fighting. Hamas has not been militarily active on the ground during this time, yet civilian life is destroyed. Yet news coverage portrays this as a two-way battlefield, when in reality it is civilians and civilian infrastructure facing relentless Israeli airstrikes.
- Israeli government statements are treated as authoritative, while Palestinian testimonies and independent investigations are framed with doubt or labelled as “claims.”
- Israeli hostages receive front-page coverage, while thousands of Palestinian detainees, many held without trial and brutalized in deten tion, are rarely named.
This is not balanced reporting. It is propaganda by omission.
Journalism must hold power to account, not echo it. When you fail, you do not just mislead: you erase lives and suppress truth.
We urge you to:
- Report Palestinian deaths and suffering with the same prominence and humanity as others.
- Include Palestinian journalists, analysts, and civil society voices.
- Stop implying equal responsibility when the facts show otherwise.
Over 200 Palestinian journalists have been targeted and murdered. These are your international colleagues. Don't their lives and voices deserve your respect?
Until Canadian media treats Palestinian lives with the same urgency, accuracy, and dignity as others, more and more Canadians will turn to international and independent sources for truth.
Please show us your integrity and do better, starting today."
“This is what colonial mathematics looks like: just enough aid to prevent international outcry, never enough to sustain actual life, the culmination of a project that began in 1948” in broad daylight selfied for the disbelieving world and accommodating governments to see.
I have so much admiration for Palestinian people as they endure this horror. Thanks so much for this powerful post, Ahmad. I so badly want this genocide to stop and for food and aid to get in.
During my first visit to Israel, I spent two hours speaking with a Zionist who openly expressed genocidal desires against Palestinians. The fact that he felt emboldened to voice such violent racism to me (a black man) was nothing short of chilling. It was like talking to the Devil.
Everything you say is true. I don't know what it says about the modern world, because even though we know what is happening in Gaza, either we don't care or are incapable of doing anything. The media has a large part to play in this way of thinking, and hopefully, they have lost all their credibility. If the world believes that they will get away with their non-action, wait until this comes back to them in their own societies like a boomerang.
"Palestine will be free not because the world finally develops a conscience, but because Palestinians never stopped insisting on their right to exist with dignity. This is the power of sumud: it transforms survival into victory, endurance into resistance, hope into an unstoppable force for liberation." this. it's such a strong and true way to end this. thank you

Gaza showed us the real disgusting face of the world esp the western. Im so sorry that we cannot erase this world of evil fascists
This is excellent, powerful, inspiring writing. Thank you. I wish this was the reporting mainstream media was doing. 🖤
ALL people SHOULD be shutting down Mainstream Media but you don't do it. WHY?
You have NO courage.

Good for you and thank you for mentioning all the Palestinian prisoners held/tortured in Israeli Jails.

HORRIFIC! The world is watching this yet the silence is deafening, no action!
Netanyahu has earned the right to be arrested.
Will noone in the world give him his right?
A beautifully written piece, full of horror but also hope. Long live Palestine 🇵🇸
Very powerful words. Oh the horrors.
Beautiful piece of writing...........EVERY single person in the USA/Western World SHOULD READ THIS.
WHY?
Palestinians have held to THEIR land. Heads up high
Despite the Israelis and USA
I ask you?? Everyone: What would you do?
WHITE people (I am white) should be absolutely disgusted and holding their heads in shame for this CATASTROPHE.
What EXACTLY happens when the Palestinians are wiped out?
A void. A HUGE VOID.
You cannot bring these people back.

Thank you so much for these powerful words, Palestine needs all the help they can get, and I hope more action will be taken on the global stage-
