I read that article and totally agree, did those scholars and other promoters of human rights really need to wait that long and parse definitions to see the violations, the humanity. You expressed it beautifully.

Good questions, but this genocide began decades ago, one has to ask if why now, Is it acceptable to call it as it is because they have in fact succeeded? It`s a "Fait accompli" Gaza has been flatten, the world has done nothing for almost two years, and murderous psychopaths are free to murder starving people at will. Really what difference does it matter now what they call it, the purveyors of death and destruction are immune prosecution.

True, it should have been recognized decades ago. As a Jew who grew up in New York, I’ve been aware of and questioning this inequity my whole life.

That we question is the key, it can free us from our bubbles of willful ignorance.

I have come to believe that many of our troubles are rooted in our inherent laziness. I derived this opinion as an adjunct to Richard Dawkins' book The Selfish Gene.

Thinking takes effort, and there is little or no reward in pondering things we cannot control or things that do not directly impact us. I find that few people I know truly wish to know the ugly truths. They rather be distracted and entertained.

I did cancel my subscription months ago, writing an explanatory email to the Times’ chief editor and cc'ing numerous columnists, including Friedman, Masha Gessen, and others that it was in protest for what I termed the newspaper's “unacceptable, pro-Zionist bias."

I asked, as a longtime litigator and hearing officer, novelist and playwright, how they could justify continuing to treat Israel’s targeted assassination of journalists as *not* deserving front page, above-the-fold coverage. How they could *not* demand interviews with Trump and Hegseth and the Pentagon—and either print the results or a front page headline:

TRUMP, HEGSETH, JOINT CHIEFS REFUSE TO ADDRESS ASSASSINATION OF JOURNALISTS IN PALESTINE

No response from any of them, and never mind that I had been a loyal subscriber for decades, and that they had published my letters several times over the years on legal ethics, the history of misogyny in the so-called New World, racism in the U.S., etc.

As they say in Spanish, “Basta ya!” Enough, already!

It's no wonder I don't know much about Palestinians. Well, I'll be cancelling my NY Times subscription. Hard to do because their games are challenging. But we simply must vote with our feet and dollars in times like this. Thank you for the report.

Really? You buy the rantings of a fucking nazi? The new York times has many faults but being too pro-israel isn't one of them.

You don't know much about Palestinians because you are ignorant. And you want to play yt savior which is easier when you are stupid enough to think that hamas is a force for good.

Black September is probably a great sales time for you.

Thank you, Tim. As writers I hope we never lose our sense of ignorance regarding the world that surrounds us. That ignites curiosity and now I'm curious about Palestine. I've spent many years equating Palestinians with Hamas, and offshoot. Now, I'm seeing something different. It's complicated and it's never been on my radar before. 🌎

"The next time a Palestinian mother stands over the grave of her child, know that her sorrow is not complex. It is not political. It is not theoretical. It is the most honest thing in the world. And the journalists who refused to print her story have blood on their keyboards.

We will not forgive. We will not forget. And we will not let the record remain theirs alone." ... like you said we will never forget!

Once again, the Lancet estimated the number of Palestinians murdered by the Zionist Jewish colonizers to be at least 500,000 in January this year. This has been supported by numerous other analysis by other legitimate organizations.

Well written piece - the media is worse then Goebbels. These are institutions which are 'respected' and they are all complicit in the killing.

This comment has nothing to do with the article itself, but I love the headline. The high school team spirit cheer just really drives the point home. Well done.

When a notorious deceitful medias suddenly want to tell the truth. We should be MORE suspicious instead of naively believed they've changed. People dont change overnight. Unless they have some ugly plan in the future. Better skip it forever for good.

I stopped reading the Times in 1990. I couldn't take the lies and distortions. Looking back on it, I can't believe that prior to 1990 I thought a news organization that featured endless ads for luxury goods could ever tell the truth, could ever be on the side of the people. It should have been obvious that this was a paper serving the rich and powerful while hoodwinking the rest of us. The Times isn't journalism, it's essentially state media filled with expertly-worded, extremely clever propaganda supporting the military-industrial complex. Of course it's not just the Times, it's all corporate media. I quit the whole shebang in 1990: one of the best decisions of my life!
